CSI: Miami (Crime Scene Investigation: Miami) is a spin-off of the CBS network series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. The series is an American crime drama television series that trails the investigations of a team of Miami-Dade forensic scientists as they unveil the circumstances behind mysterious and unusual deaths and other crimes. The pilot episode was first broadcast on May 9, 2002 as an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and six seasons have been aired.

CSI: Miami is the only show in the CSI franchise to have crossed over with both CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and CSI: NY, but is the only one out of the three which has yet to crossover with a series outside of the franchise. CSI: Miami has crossed over with CSI: NY on more than one occasion.

Inspired by the top-rated series "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," CSI: MIAMI is a fast-paced drama that follows a South Florida team of forensic investigators who use both cutting-edge scientific methods and old-fashioned police work to solve crimes.  Horatio Caine, a former homicide detective, heads a group of investigators who work crimes amid the steamy tropical surroundings and cultural crossroads of Miami.  His team includes Calleigh Duquesne, a bilingual Southern beauty with a specialty in ballistics; Eric Delko, an underwater recovery expert who knows all the twists and turns of the Florida waterways, and Ryan Wolfe, who, after joining the department two years ago, still hasn't found his place within the group.  Rounding out the team is Alexx Woods, the no-nonsense know-it-all coroner, and Natalia Boa Vista, the enigmatic "grant girl" and DNA specialist assigned to solving cold cases.  Helping Horatio with cases is Det. Frank Tripp, a tough yet thorough police officer.  Together, these investigators collect and analyze the evidence to solve the crimes and to avenge those who cannot speak for themselves -- the victims. 

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation took television by storm in 2000 with its innovative and cutting-edge updating of a standard series concept – in this case, the cop show. Suddenly, instead of simply whodunit, solving crimes was a matter of howdunit, and with what size shoe, and whether anyone left behind traces of evidence that the blue ALS light could pick up.
