The Tudors is a historical fiction television series created by Michael Hirst. The series is based upon the reign of English monarch Henry VIII, and is named after the Tudor dynasty.
Season One of The Tudors chronicles the period of Henry VIII's reign in which his effectiveness as King is tested by international conflicts as well as political intrigue in his own court, while the pressure of fathering a male heir compels him to reject his wife Katherine of Aragon for Anne Boleyn. He also has a string of affairs, and fathers a son, Henry, by Elizabeth Blount.
Season Two finds Henry as the head of the Church of England, the result of his break with the Catholic Church, which refused to grant him a divorce from Katherine. During his battle with Rome, he secretly marries Anne, who is pregnant. Anne's own failure to produce a son dooms her as Henry's attention shifts toward Jane Seymour......

Great show, what I can see anyways! Disc one is labeled episodes 1-3 yet only episodes 1 & 2 are available, and disc 2 has 4, 5, and 6. So I got screwed out of episode 3. Would have given the show 5 stars, but not being able to see a majorly pivotal episode really screws up my enjoyment of a show, and I cant seem to get into watching it anymore after that, so I havent seen the rest of the season.

First, I LOVE this show but this season I felt was weaker than the previous two. The previous two seasons had left me drooling for more--this one however kinda left me wondering how the next seasons will be. On another note though I kind of feel like there is a lot about to happen based on all the introduction of the new wives and other characters. As usual the cinematography is high quality and acting is great. I still have to give this 4 stars for being such high quality-I'd give a 3 1/2 for it being a ''filler'' season.

This series is in my opinion the finest vision of this time period, superior to A Man for All Seasons, Anne of the Thousand Days, the Elizabeth I series with Helen Mirren, and numerous others. This series has sparkle and spirit in addition to rich intelligence (evidenced by its well-composed screenplay), smart casting choices (though Joss Stone is still a question mark for me as Anne of Cleves), and sensational locations. Bravo!

I've never been a big fan of Jonathan Rhys Meyers until now, but his portrayal of Henry VIII is intense, dramatic, and exciting.

The Tudor DVDs from
Showtime are beautiful to watch. Most of rhe history is correct. Henry VIII is portrayed so well as being rather nice when young and then getting really mean and cruel. Always interesting to watch.
